July 29th is National Chicken Wing Day, the humble 2-piece joint of poultry that launched to infamy the day someone in Buffalo NY tossed them in hot sauce and butter. Since then, people have been experimenting with coating wings in all manner of sauces, dry rubs and dips.
Let's venture outside of the classic hot wing together, and try these 5 unique chicken wing styles coming to you from some of the best food minds in Cleveland.
Porco's Lounge & Tiki Room - Thai Coconut
2527 W 25th St, Cleveland
You may know Porco’s as a place to get over-the-top Tiki drinks, but their kitchen is just as outrageous.
Their chicken is fresh from Premium Pasture Farms in Medina, and they offer sauces like Mexican Buffalo, Thai Coconut and Honey Mustard. If you’re lucky, they’ll have the PBJ wings, with a Thai-style peanut sauce tossed with dollops of fresh concord grape jam.
Heads up before heading out – the wings are only available Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Greenhouse Tavern - Confit Wings
2038 E 4th St, Cleveland
They’ve been covered by Food Network and countless food blogs. There is a reason for it.
Cured overnight, slow-cooked confit style, fried up crispy and served with roasted jalapenos, scallions and garlic.
Greenhouse makes labor-intensive wings taste effortless.
Cleats - Mango Habenero
3995 Jennings Rd, Cleveland / 5267 Wallings Rd, North Royalton / 602 South St, Chardon
This National Chicken Wing Day, it is your civic, (and some would say National) duty to go out and order up a pile of these great wings yourself. Just don't get boneless, the great chicken wing pretender. You're better than that.
