It’s Halloween weekend! Find out what spooky delights await you in the Cleveland area this weekend, October 29 – 31.
The Skull & Skeleton in Art – The Gallery at Lakeland is hosting “The Skull & Skeleton in Art VII: From Folk Art to Pop Culture”, its biennial skeleton show, turning the gallery into a hauntingly fun collection of every kind of skeleton art imaginable representing a variety of media. The work is made by over 100 different artists, both local and international. The gallery is located on the first floor of the D-Building on Lakeland Community College’s campus, at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland, Ohio, 44094. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 9pm, Saturday, 9am – 5pm, and Sunday is closed. The show is free, open to the public and runs until November 5th.
Dia de Muertos – Held on Saturday, October 30 – the Detroit Shoreway’s Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration is a family-friendly affair that features free music and dance performances around in and around Cleveland Public Theater (6415 Detroit Ave). The main event is the “Parade of Skeletons”, featuring life-sized puppets and plenty of people in costume. Vendors will set up inside Cleveland Public Theatre’s Parish Hall, and Gordon Square Arts District bars and restaurants will have food and drink specials. Boos N’ Barrels – The Saucy Brew Works Ohio City location (2885 Detroit Ave) is hosting a “Boos N’ Barrels” party Saturday, October 30 in the outdoor “Vibe Garden”. The local brewer’s event rolls out three new barrel-aged Imperial Pumpkin Ale “Boo Thang” beers. Local vendors, pumpkin painting, outdoor games and flight specials. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony – One of the biggest music nights in Cleveland, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will induct Tina Turner, Carole King, the Go-Go’s, JAY-Z, Foo Fighters and Todd Rundgren along with Kraftwerk, Charley Patton and Gil Scott-Heron as Early Influence inductees and LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads as Musical Excellence inductees. The event is held for the first time at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, and starts at 8pm. Tickets are available at the venue website.
Beachland Ballroom’s Halloween Cover Show and Costume Contest – The Beachland Ballroom (15711 Waterloo Road) hosts a Halloween party where local bands choose another music artist to cover for the night. You’ll hear the music of Tina Turner, The Moldy Peaches, The Rutles, Foo Fighters and Taking Back Sunday. Come in costume, you might win a prize! The show starts at 8pm, on Saturday, October 30. Kent State University Orchestra Celebrates Halloween – This Halloween (Oct 31st) at 3 p.m., the Kent State University Orchestra will perform a Halloween concert at Cartwright Hall (650 Hilltop Drive, Kent). The members of the orchestra will be decked out in costume, performing “spooky, family-friendly favorites”. Candy will be handed out at the end of the performance to kick off Kent city’s official trick-or-treat night. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for those 18 and under with a ticket. Cleveland Browns vs Pittsburg Steelers – It’s one of the deepest grudge matches in Cleveland. It’s the Browns versus the Steelers at 1pm for a Halloween showdown. Grab a seat at your favorite local haunt, or invite your friends over for pizza, fun-size candy bars and football.
