It’s always a good day to take a hike

It’s a proven method of relaxation, mind rejuvenation, and effective exercise. Hiking on one of America’s beautiful nature trails is good for the body, mind and soul.

With November 17th being National Take a Hike Day, it’s a good time to appreciate the efforts of conservation made through the years. Thanks to legislation protecting our National Park System, we have over 60,000 miles of trails throughout our nation.

Hundreds of years ago, wandering through the woods was a sign of poverty, or even a criminal streak. But after authors like Jung and Thoreau wrote about connecting with nature, and trailblazers (literally) like naturalist John Muir proposed a national trial system, America took action to protect National Park areas from being commercially bought and sold.

In NorthEast Ohio, the Cleveland Metroparks offer over 300 miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding. Even with the weather taking a turn for chillier breezes, bundling up and seeing how nature transforms with the turning weather is well worth seeing.

The video above shows off Whipp’s Ledges, a beloved part of the Metroparks for its exposed sandstone rock formations, and multiple levels of trails. So get those boots on, wrap a scarf around your neck, and take a hike through one of our state’s greatest treasures.
