Juneteenth 2021 Celebrations in Cleveland

Juneteenth Freedom Fest

Juneteenth Freedom Fest

Sat, Jun 19, 12 – 10 PM

Mall C, Downtown Cleveland

Downtown Cleveland Alliance along with Karamu House, have teamed up with many other organizations to host the city’s first annual MetroHealth Cleveland Juneteenth Freedom Fest in the heart of Downtown Cleveland this summer on June 19th. Our goal is to educate, celebrate, and activate participants around the history of African American culture.

Unlike other long-tenured arts and culture institutions in Cleveland, this will be Karamu’s first time taking center stage in the heart of the city, and DCA is thrilled to leverage our collective expertise to make this dream a reality.

Power Up Juneteenth Celebration with EmpowerCLE

Power Up Juneteenth Celebration with EmpowerCLE

Sat, Jun 19, 12 PM

1919 E 55th St, Cleveland, OH

On June 19, 1865, federal troops in Galveston Texas where slavery was still legal, took control of the state and ensured the freedom of enslaved Africans in America. Many Americans are learning about the significance and importance of Juneteenth which took place two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed and marks the official end of chattel slavery in the United States.

Likewise, many are still struggling to understand how a nation like the U.S.A. is leaving a third of its citizens unconnected to any broadband service. Worse yet, these disconnected residents are also losing touch with many of the democratic freedoms that are increasingly reliant on high-speed internet access.

Join us for the first official mixer for the Lorde Leadership Network while celebrating Pride and Juneteenth!
(This event centers on LGBTQ+ people of color.)
Join Sage & Maven, Ellolique, and Current Cleveland as we host our first meetup for the Lorde Leadership Network! We will be celebrating both Pride month and Juneteenth together in the community – you do not have to be a registered member of LLN, in fact, we hope that this event will be an opportunity for people to learn more about who we are.
Lorde Leadership Network is a group of queer, trans, and intersex people of color interested in supporting the professional advancement of our community. Our aim is to create a space to lift each other up and cultivate a community of leaders that finally centers queer and trans-BIPOC people, while collectively working to upend white supremacy. Consider LLN a place where we can safely help each other navigate through the politics of professionalism – it’s a group of people who are committed to continuously uplifting one another through the access that we have.
We will be providing wine, sparkling water, and light hors d’oeuvres; be sure to stay tuned for more information about the featured artist at Current.
This event is free, however, we are asking that attendees register due to our COVID-compliant capacity limit of 50 people.
Other COVID-related information:
-Attendees are encouraged to be mindful of social distancing
