Women Who Tiki's founder Shannon Mustipher shows how to create a tropical cocktail that acts as a tour of rum and a delicious libation.
This week at Porco’s Lounge and Tiki Room (2527 W 25th St) local female bartenders took over the establishment for the “Women Who Tiki” event, a pop-up event that showcases the talents of women’s cocktail prowess to benefit the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center.
Women Who Tiki is a traveling event, the brainchild of acclaimed cocktail consultant and rum expert Shannon Mustipher.
Mustipher, Beverage Director of Glady’s Caribbean in Brooklyn, New York and author of the recently published book Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktail show stopped by to help run the event and share some of her own tiki cocktail creations.
In this edition of our Drink This series, Mustipher shows off a host of rums with the Kill Devyl Reef, a foray into what she describes as “dangerous waters”.
One type of rum used is Pusser’s Rum, a British Naval Rum. You can check out a little of the history behind Naval Rum and what’s known as “Black Tot Day” in our video.
